**Annual Concert 2026** Celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Students' Union Orchestra (UPO) as the nearly 100 student musicians come together at Hong Kong City Hall on April 8, 2026 for the triumphant “Wish: 20 Years of Music” concert film. The program, wholly conceived and conducted by the students, takes audiences on a powerful journey through the orchestra’s history and aspirations. In the opening “Looking Back” section, the concert opens with Tchaikovsky’s majestic “1812 Overture,” a rousing tribute to the UPO’s glorious past. A gentle touch follows with Anderson’s “Trumpeter’s Lullaby,” inviting listeners into a quiet, reflective space. The star of the first half showcases the soloists’ virtuosity with Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 (third movement), and a moving excerpt from Weber’s “The Phantom of the Opera” closes the half, telling the story of twenty years of drama and growth. The second half, titled “Exploration,” launches with the soaring “March of Superman” by John Williams, reflecting the orchestra’s lofty ambitions. The maturity of the ensemble gleams through Saint‑Saëns’s “Introduction and Rondo Capriccio,” again spotlighting a brilliant student soloist. The film culminates in a rousing rendition of Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony, fourth movement, overflowing with passionate and shocking melodies that encapsulate the orchestra’s infinite hopes for the future.
