Vin Diesel Confirms Kojak Reboot and Multiple Sequels in Development

Vin Diesel has confirmed via Instagram that a reboot of the 1970s detective series Kojak remains an active project in his pipeline. Alongside this revival, the actor is deeply involved in continuing several of his major action franchises, signaling a busy production schedule ahead. Diesel shared a reflective post teasing his upcoming slate, specifically mentioning the “Infamous New York Detective,” which is understood to be the lollipop-sucking protagonist originally played by Telly Savalas.

Diesel’s commitment to the Kojak reboot has been public for over a decade, and he has previously shared concept images of himself in the titular role. The project, which he is set to star in and produce, currently has Phillip Gawthorne attached to write the script. Diesel has described the reboot as “the opportunity to share my perspective of New York and its unique history.”

Expanding Action Franchises

Beyond the detective series, Vin Diesel’s focus is on a multitude of sequels. Production is reportedly underway on Riddick: Furya, which will be written and directed by David Twohy and explore the origin of the Furyan character. The actor also confirmed development is ongoing for:

• Fast and Furious 11: The planned finale for the main franchise.
• xXx 4: A return for Xander Cage, described by Diesel as “the American answer to Bond.”
• The Last Witch Hunter 2: A sequel greenlit due to the film’s strong performance on streaming platforms years after its theatrical release.

According to Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelsen, The Last Witch Hunter grew into a “global fan favorite” through post-theatrical viewership, justifying the sequel’s production with more ambitious scale.
