A remake of the 1980s horror film Sleepaway Camp is officially moving forward with its original creator, Robert Hiltzik, writing and directing. The announcement was made on the Instagram account of production company AFA, which is led by Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson and producer Johnny Ryan Jr. Hiltzik has completed the script for the project, currently referred to unofficially as Sleepaway Camp 2025.

The development follows AFA’s acquisition of the rights to the film back in September. At the time, Hiltzik expressed his enthusiasm for the project, telling Deadline that AFA was the only company that shared his vision for a re-imagined version that would preserve the integrity of the original while introducing it to a new generation.
