Zhu Zhu

Zhu Zhu (born 19 July 1984) is a Chinese actress, singer, and former VJ who first garnered public attention as a presenter on MTV China. Born into a military family in Beijing, her ancestral roots trace back to Linhai in Zhejiang province, and she is the daughter of businessman Zhu Hanbin. Her grandfather, Zhu Xuzhi, served as a major general in the People’s Liberation Army, underscoring a lineage steeped in discipline and national service. From the age of three, Zhu began piano lessons, and as a junior school student she performed in an English rendition of Beauty and the Beast, revealing an early affinity for the performing arts. She later pursued a technical education, graduating from Beijing Technology and Business University with a major in electronics and information engineering, a background that contrasts intriguingly with her subsequent entertainment career. After winning a local singing contest in Beijing and placing third nationally, she was scouted and recruited by MTV China in 2005, where she hosted several music programs and became a recognizable face for Chinese youth.

Zhu’s transition from music television to film was marked by her debut in the 2010 romantic comedy What Women Want, starring Andy Lau and Gong Li. She quickly expanded her international profile, appearing as Chi Chi in the 2012 Hollywood martial‑arts film The Man with the Iron Fists alongside Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu, and contributing to the ambitious ensemble project Cloud Atlas. Subsequent roles include the Netflix series Marco Polo (2014) and the Bollywood production Tubelight (2017), where she learned Hindi to perform alongside Salman Khan. In her personal life, Zhu was romantically linked to Italian entrepreneur Lapo Elkann (2012‑2013) before marrying Tsinghua University lecturer Wang Yunjia on 18 March 2021; the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Pearl, on 2 September 2021. Her multifaceted career continues to evolve, balancing acting, music, and occasional hosting duties.
