X Mayo, born Xochitl Gabriela Mayo on July 27, 1987 in Inglewood, California, is an Afro‑Latina comedian, writer, producer, and actress who has quickly become a distinctive voice in contemporary American comedy. Raised in a multicultural household, she trained in dance, writing, and acting from an early age, later experimenting with makeup artistry before discovering improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York City. Her early web series Who Made the Potato Salad showcased her talent for creating inclusive sketch comedy that highlighted comedians of color, earning praise from local publications. In 2018 she secured her first professional writing gig as a staff writer for The Daily Show, where she contributed until 2021 and earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series in 2020. During this period Mayo also appeared as a recurring cast member on the Facebook Live series Strangers and landed supporting roles in films such as Finding ʻOhana and the critically acclaimed The Farewell (2019). She co‑starred in the horror‑comedy The Blackening (2022) and played a supporting role in the Amazon series Swarm.
