Władysław Grabowski

Władysław Grabowski (1 June 1883 – 6 July 1961) was a prominent Polish film actor whose career spanned nearly half a century, from his cinema debut in 1911 to his final appearance in 1957. Born in Warsaw, Congress Poland, he was the son of Władysław and Joanna née Szałowicz. Grabowski pursued formal training in the dramatic arts, graduating from the Drama Class of the Warsaw Music Society, which laid the foundation for his lifelong dedication to the performing arts. He made his theatrical debut in 1905, and quickly established himself on stages across several major cities, including Łódź, Warsaw, Kraków, and St. Petersburg, showcasing his versatility and range as a performer.

Grabowski transitioned to the silver screen in 1911, when he appeared as the rabbi's assistant in the film Meir Ezofowicz. This marked the beginning of a prolific film career that saw him feature in more than 35 films over the decades. He was predominantly known for his supporting comedy roles, earning recognition for his timing and ability to bring humor to the screen during the interwar period and beyond. Among his notable works were Pan Twardowski (1921), Is Lucyna a Girl? (1934), Wacuś (1935), Bolek i Lolek (1936), and Heather (1938). Grabowski passed away on 6 July 1961 in Warsaw at the age of 78. He was laid to rest in the Alley of Merit at the Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw, grave 72, honoring his significant contributions to Polish cinema and theater.
