What's After the Movie
Thomas "Tom" Wlaschiha, born on 1972-08-29 in the small town of Dohna, Bezirk Dresden in what was then East Germany, is a German actor celebrated for his striking versatility across television, film, and stage. From an early age, his fascination with performance was evident, and at seventeen, just after the fall of the Berlin Wall, he seized the opportunity to become an exchange student in the United States, where he immersed himself in theatre and honed his English language skills, a formative experience that broadened his artistic perspective. Upon returning to Germany, he joined the Theater Junge Generation in Dresden, performing there from 1996 until 2000, and later brought his craft to the Schauspielhaus Zürich in 2002 and the Schauspiel Frankfurt in 2003, establishing a solid foundation in classical and contemporary theatre. His screen career began in earnest in 1995, and by 1998 he was appearing in a variety of supporting roles in German and international productions, leading to his first starring role as Stephan in the 2000 gay milieu study No One Sleeps. The turning point of his global recognition arrived in August 2011 when he was cast as the enigmatic assassin Jaqen H'ghar in the second season of HBO's Game of Thrones, a role he reprised in seasons five and six, earning a nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series at the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards. Beyond Westeros, Wlaschiha portrayed Kommissar Sebastian Berger in the crime series Crossing Lines (2013‑2015) and Gestapo inspector Hagan Forster in the acclaimed series Das Boot, returning for its subsequent seasons. He has also ventured into voice work, dubbing himself for international projects and providing the German voice for Buzz Lightyear in Lightyear. Multilingual and musically inclined, he speaks French, Italian, Russian, and is the nephew of famed baritone Ekkehard Wlaschiha, underscoring a rich family legacy in the performing arts.
