What's After the Movie
Thabo Andrew Rametsi II was born on 17 July 1988 in Umlazi, a township in KwaZulu‑Natal, South Africa. From an early age he displayed a keen interest in performance, attending Norkem Park Primary School and later Norkem Park High School in Kempton Park where he began acting in school plays and television commercials. While pursuing his secondary education, Rametsi developed a reputation for his versatility, seamlessly moving between dramatic and comedic roles, a skill that would later define his professional career. He subsequently earned a law degree from the University of South Africa (UNISA), a testament to his academic diligence, but chose to follow his passion for the screen, balancing his legal studies with burgeoning acting opportunities. Rametsi made his television debut in 2010 on the SABC 1 competition series Class Act, quickly earning recognition for his natural charisma. The following year he appeared as David in Wild at Heart, and in 2012 he transitioned to film with a supporting role in Fanie Fourie's Lobola. His breakthrough came with guest appearances on the internationally acclaimed series Homeland and the TV movie The Gamechangers, where he portrayed serial killer Devin Moore alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Bill Paxton. In 2016 he achieved critical acclaim for embodying anti‑apartheid activist Solomon Kalushi Mahlangu in Kalushi: The Story of Solomon Mahlangu, a performance that garnered him the Best Actor award at the inaugural BRICS Film Festival in India. Continuing his momentum, Rametsi took on the investigative reporter Tebogo Ramalama in the fourth season of Hard Copy (2017). Known for his commitment to authentic storytelling and his ability to navigate complex characters, Thabo Rametsi remains a prominent figure in South African cinema and an emerging talent on the global stage.
