Takis Miliadis

Panagiotis "Takis" Miliadis was born on 26 September 1922 in Athens, Greece, into a family deeply rooted in the performing arts, with his father, Nikos Miliadis, being a respected actor in musical theatre and his mother, Marika Anthopoulou, an accomplished opera singer. This immersive artistic environment during his formative years exposed him to the stage from childhood, yet his parents harbored hopes that he would pursue a stable medical career, a path he initially honored by enrolling in and eventually graduating from the University of Athens Medical School. However, his true passion lay in performance, and during the difficult years of the German Occupation, he dedicated himself to rigorous theatrical studies under the mentorship of esteemed acting instructors Kostas Bastias and Dimitris Rontiris, forsaking medicine for the stage. His exceptional charm, sophisticated wit, and distinctive comedic timing quickly distinguished him in the Greek entertainment industry, earning him the prestigious moniker of the Maurice Chevalier of Greece and cementing his status as one of the nation's most beloved and recognizable comedic performers.

Throughout his extensive and multifaceted career, Miliadis demonstrated remarkable versatility across cinema, theatre, radio, and television, establishing himself as a prominent figure in Greek cinema and theatrical productions while consistently earning critical acclaim for his stage performances. His artistic reach extended beyond national borders when he worked in Germany as a radio presenter, hosting Greek-language broadcasts that connected him with diaspora audiences and showcased his linguistic talents. In the realm of television, he became a household name as one of the starring hosts of the popular Sunday program Haroumeni Kyriaki, Kyriaki horis sinnefa (Happy Sunday, Sunday without Clouds), which aired on EIRT (now ERT1) in 1972, where he delighted viewers with theatrical sketches and comedic acts that showcased his improvisational skills. His personal life included three marriages: first to actress Betty Moschona, then to Sasa Kazeli, and finally to Paraskeve Kollias, with whom he shared his later years and raised his son, Marios Miliadis. Tragically, his vibrant life was cut short when he was involved in a devastating car crash near his home in Ioannina on 12 April 1985; though he initially survived the incident, he succumbed to his fatal injuries two days later on 14 April 1985 at the age of sixty-two, leaving behind a rich legacy in Greek entertainment.
