Born Sten Peter Gustaf Adolf Lindgren on June 23, 1903, in Munkfors, Sweden, he emerged from the rural landscape of Värmland to become a significant presence in the national film industry, bringing authenticity and depth to his numerous screen portrayals throughout the evolving landscape of Swedish filmmaking from the silent era through to the post-war period.

He made his professional screen debut in 1925, appearing in the ambitious silent historical epic Charles XII, which immediately positioned him within the burgeoning Swedish film community and marked the beginning of an impressive journey through over thirty feature films. Throughout his extensive career, Lindgren demonstrated remarkable versatility and consistency, transitioning seamlessly from the silent cinema of the 1920s to the sound films of the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, with notable performances in productions such as Ingmar's Inheritance (1925), People of Hälsingland (1933), and Ocean Breakers (1935). His work in the late 1930s included significant roles in The Lady Becomes a Maid (1936) and The People of Bergslagen (1937), while the 1940s brought him critical recognition in films like Life Goes On (1941), The Yellow Clinic (1942), and Young Blood (1943), showcasing his ability to embody complex characters across various genres. Lindgren continued to work steadily throughout the 1940s and 1950s, contributing memorable performances to Sunshine Follows Rain (1946), Dynamite (1947), The Girl from the Marsh Croft (1947), and Valley of Eagles (1951), before concluding his career with final appearances in A Goat in the Garden and Fridolf Stands Up! in 1958. He passed away in Stockholm on May 13, 1959, at the age of 55, leaving behind a substantial legacy that documented the transformation of Swedish cinema across three distinct decades of film history.
