Ruth Negga, born on 4 May 1981, is a talented Irish actress recognized for her roles in various film and television projects. She is prominently known for her work in the AMC television series Preacher (2016–2019) and the film Loving (2016). Her portrayal of Mildred Loving earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. Negga also made an impactful Broadway debut as Lady Macbeth in Shakespeare's Macbeth in 2022, for which she received a Tony Award nomination. Over the years, Negga has left a lasting impact on audiences with her performances in Isolation (2005), Breakfast on Pluto (2005), Warcraft (2016), Ad Astra (2019), and Passing (2021). Her television portfolio includes projects like the BBC mini-series Criminal Justice, RTÉ's Love/Hate, E4's Misfits, ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Apple TV+'s Presumed Innocent (2024).

Born to an Irish mother and an Ethiopian father in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Negga moved to Ireland at a young age following her father's tragic passing in a car accident. She spent most of her early life in Limerick, Ireland, later moving to London for secondary school. She honed her acting skills at the prestigious Samuel Beckett Centre at Trinity College Dublin. Negga made her screen debut in the Irish film Capital Letters in 2004 and has been involved in an array of films, television shows, and theater projects since then. Aside from acting, Negga also took a step in voice acting in the video game Dark Souls II. She has been named on The Irish Times list of Ireland's greatest film actors and was chosen as the Irish Shooting Star for the Berlin Film Festival.
