Rick Yune

Rick Yune, born Richard Yune on August 22, 1971 in Washington, D.C., is an American actor, screenwriter, producer, and martial artist of Korean descent. The son of Korean immigrants Park Wonhui and Yun Taeho, he grew up alongside his younger brother, actor Karl Yune, and attended Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, Maryland before transferring to St. John’s College High School. Demonstrating academic prowess, Yune earned a Bachelor of Science in finance from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in 1994, where he also interned on Wall Street and briefly worked as a hedge‑fund trader for SAC Capital before deciding to pursue entrepreneurial and creative ventures. A dedicated martial artist, Yune holds a black belt in Taekwondo and is a former Golden Gloves boxer, disciplines that later informed many of his on‑screen action performances. His striking looks caught the attention of a modeling agent during his college years, leading to historic campaigns as the first Asian‑American face for Versace and Ralph Lauren Polo, which helped launch his entertainment career. Yune made his film debut in 1999 as Kazuo Miyamoto in Snow Falling on Cedars, and quickly rose to prominence with roles such as Johnny Tran in The Fast and the Furious (2001) and the North Korean terrorist Zao in Die Another Day (2002), earning a spot on People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive list that year. He continued to blend his martial‑arts expertise with cinematic storytelling, starring in The Man with the Iron Fists (2012) alongside Russell Crowe, portraying the menacing Kang Yeon‑Sak in Olympus Has Fallen (2013), and embodying Mongol Khan Kaidu in Netflix’s historic series Marco Polo (2014‑2016). In 2025, Yune expanded his international appeal with a cameo in the Indian‑Malayalam film L2: Empuraan, while also serving as a board member of the Center for Global Dialogue and Cooperation and an ambassador for the Princess Charlene Foundation of Monaco, reflecting his commitment to both artistic and philanthropic endeavors.
