What's After the Movie
Paula Kalenberg was born on 9 November 1986 in Dinslaken, West Germany, a town near Düsseldorf that later became part of a reunified Germany. From an early age she was drawn to performance, yet her entry into acting was unexpectedly pragmatic: after hearing a casting call on the radio in 2001, she secured her first on‑screen roles in the television films Hanna – Where Are You? and In the End the Truth. Those early appearances led to a guest spot on the long‑running crime series Tatort and a supporting role in the drama The Puppet Grave Digger, marking her film debut. Over the next few years she accumulated a solid body of work in TV movies such as The Doctor, The Sting of Scorpion, Secret of the Red House and the classic adaptation Intrigue and Love, where she portrayed Luise Miller opposite August Diehl. This period honed her craft and established her as a reliable young talent in the German screen industry. In 2006 she headlined The Cloud (Die Wolke), a performance that earned her the New Faces Award for Best Actress, further cementing her rising status. The following years saw her tackle diverse genres, from the fantasy adventure Krabat to the historically resonant Vision – From the Life of Hildegard von Bingen, the latter bringing her the Lilli Palmer Memorial Camera at the 2009 Golden Camera Awards. Paula Kalenberg continued to expand her repertoire with a portrayal of Kristina Söderbaum in Jew Suss: Rise and Fall, for which she received the Askania Award for Shooting Star, and she remained active in television with appearances in series such as Countdown – The Haunt Begins and Wilsberg.
