Paul Satterfield

Paul Satterfield (born Paul Parsons Satterfield Jr. on August 19, 1960) is an American actor best remembered for his extensive work on daytime soap operas and several primetime series during the 1990s and early 2000s. Raised in both Nashville, Tennessee and Jacksonville, Florida, he grew up in a family that blended firefighting, lifeguarding, and music; his mother, Priscilla Coolidge, later married Booker T. Jones of Booker T. & the M.G.'s, prompting a move to California to escape the racism they faced as an interracial couple. After graduating from Whitman College on a basketball scholarship with a degree in English, Satterfield returned to Los Angeles, working odd jobs such as painting and varnishing boats before pursuing acting full‑time. His early screen appearances included a guest spot on Hunter (1986) and the horror anthology Creepshow 2 (1987), where he played Deke in the Stephen King‑adapted segment “The Raft.” **Satterfield’s breakthrough came with the role of Paul Hornsby on General Hospital (1991‑1994), followed by memorable stints as Dr. Pierce Peterson on The Bold and the Beautiful and Dr. Spencer Truman on One Life to Live. He also featured in the short‑lived WB series Savannah, and made guest appearances on a wide variety of shows including Beverly Hills, 90210, Cheers, 7th Heaven, Will & Grace, and Bruce Almighty. Outside of acting, he earned a master’s degree in education from Drury University in 2013 and has pursued a career in teaching. His personal life has been marked by both joy and tragedy: he married Elizabeth Wells in 1996, fathered two children, and later divorced; in 2014 his mother and stepfather died in a murder‑suicide. Notably, Satterfield’s striking resemblance to Christopher Reeve led to a memorable meeting in which Reeve joked about their identical appearances. Today, his legacy endures through a diverse body of work that spans soap operas, sitcoms, and film.
