After being scouted, he made his stage debut in Every Little Thing ’09 in 2009, and the following year transitioned to film with his first cinematic appearance in Hanjiro. Over the next few years, Takasugi honed his craft, starring in the 2012 movie Quartet, which marked his first major film role and showcased his ability to carry a narrative.
His breakout moment came in 2015 when he earned the Best Newcomer Award at the 36th Yokohama Film Festival for the critically acclaimed Bon Lin, cementing his reputation as a rising talent. Two years later, he secured the Sponichi Grand Prix New Face Award at the 72nd Mainichi Film Awards for his performance in Before We Vanish, confirming his status as a versatile and compelling actor.
