Leslie David Baker

Leslie David Baker (born February 19, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American actor best recognized for his iconic portrayal of Stanley Hudson on the NBC sitcom The Office (2005–2013). Baker earned two Screen Actors Guild Awards as part of the ensemble cast, and his deadpan delivery and monotone cadence have made his character a lasting fan favorite. Before achieving fame, he graduated from Mendel Catholic College Preparatory High School in 1976, earned a B.S. in Psychology from Loyola University Chicago, and completed an M.S. in human services administration at the Spertus Institute, during which time he taught special‑education classes and appeared in OfficeMax commercials. His early professional life included positions with the Chicago Board of Education, the Department of Public Health, and the Office of Cable and Communications, providing the real‑world nine‑to‑five experience that later informed his Stanley performance. Relocating to Los Angeles in the late 1990s, Baker secured his breakthrough role after an audition that left him sweaty and rumpled, yet perfectly in sync with the curmudgeonly spirit of his character. Following The Office, he expanded his résumé with recurring roles on CMT’s Still the King and Sky One’s Living the Dream, as well as voice work on Disney Junior’s Puppy Dog Pals, Apple TV+’s Doug Unplugs, and HBO Max’s Fired on Mars. His film credits include a supporting part in The Happytime Murders (2018) and a starring role in the sports drama Hard Miles (2023). In 2020 he launched a Kickstarter for a proposed Uncle Stan spin‑off, raising over $336,000 before pausing the project due to industry strikes. Beyond acting, Baker released the novelty single "2 Be Simple" under the alias “Black Hugh Hefner” and has appeared in numerous advertising campaigns, notably for FileMaker and Honey Nut Cheerios. His career continues to blend comedic timing with a grounded, relatable presence that resonates with audiences across mediums.
