What's After the Movie
Katie Quinn Lowes is an American actress and theater director best known for her breakout role as Quinn Perkins on Shonda Rhimes’ political drama Scandal, which aired from 2012 to 2018. Born on September 22 1982 in Port Washington, New York, she grew up in a culturally mixed household—her father an Irish Catholic and her mother Jewish—providing a rich background that informed her artistic sensibilities. After graduating from Paul D. Schreiber Senior High School in 2000, Lowes pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she honed her craft through intensive stage work, including the play “Four Saints in Mexico.” She entered television with a guest role on the FX series Rescue Me in 2004, quickly accumulating a diverse résumé that featured appearances on The Sopranos, Without a Trace, NCIS, Ghost Whisperer, Castle, Leverage and The Closer, demonstrating her versatility across genres. In 2008 she starred opposite Laurie Metcalf in the short‑lived CW comedy‑drama Easy Money and appeared in independent films such as The Job (2009), Bear (2010) and Café (2011). Beyond acting, Lowes co‑founded the Los Angeles‑based IAMA Theater Company with her husband Adam Shapiro, directing and championing the Southern California black‑box theater scene. Her Broadway debut came in July 2018 when she originated the role of Becky in the musical Waitress, sharing the stage with Shapiro until October of that year. Most recently she portrayed Rachel DeLoache Williams in Netflix’s Inventing Anna (2022) and starred in the CBS sitcom How We Roll (2022), further cementing her reputation as a dynamic performer who seamlessly shifts between screen, stage, and production.
