Katherine Grace McNamara (born November 22, 1995) is an American actress and singer who first captured attention as a child prodigy, earning her high‑school diploma at fourteen and graduating summa cum laude from Drexel University at seventeen. Raised in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, the only child of military parents Ursula and Evan McNamara, she moved to Los Angeles in 2011 to pursue a professional career after early stage work in Kansas City and small‑budget Kansas‑area films such as Matchmaker Mary and Get Off My Porch. Her breakout television role arrived in 2015 when ABC Family cast her as Clary Fray in the supernatural drama Shadowhunters, a performance that earned her both a Teen Choice Award and a People’s Choice Award and cemented her reputation for bringing literary heroes to life.
