Juliet Maryon Mills, born on 21 November 1941 in London, England, is a celebrated British‑American actress whose career spans more than eight decades, making her one of the industry’s most enduring talents. Raised in a theatrical family—her father Sir John Mills was a distinguished actor and her mother Mary Hayley Bell a playwright—Juliet was immersed in the performing arts from infancy, even serving as an extra in her father’s 1942 war‑time classic In Which We Serve. She attended Elmhurst Ballet School, which laid the foundation for her poise and stage presence, and at age sixteen she earned critical acclaim in the Peter Shaffer play Five Finger Exercise, a role that later secured a Tony Award nomination when she transferred to Broadway in 1960.
