Julie Estelle (born Julie Estelle Gasnier on 4 January 1989) is an Indonesian actress and model who has become a cult figure in both local and international genre cinema. Growing up in Jakarta as the second of three sisters, she was exposed to a multicultural household—her mother is Indonesian and her father a French‑American expatriate—an upbringing that later informed her ability to navigate diverse roles. She completed her secondary education at the Lycée International Français de Jakarta, where she majored in business before stepping onto the screen at the age of fifteen in the romance film Alexandria. Her early breakout came with the 2006 MTV Indonesia Awards “Most Favorite Rising Star” and a bold cover appearance on the Indonesian edition of Playboy shortly after turning seventeen, marking her as a daring young talent. From horror staples such as Kuntilanak and its sequels to the slasher‑martial‑arts hybrid Macabre (2010), Estelle demonstrated a willingness to blend genre conventions, which caught the eye of director Gareth Evans. In The Raid 2 (2014) she embodied the icy assassin “Hammer Girl,” mastering pencak silat under Yayan Ruhian despite having no prior martial‑arts training—a testament to her work ethic and physical commitment.
