Judith O'Dea

Judith O'Dea (born April 20, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is an American actress best remembered for her iconic performance as Barbra in George A. Romero's seminal 1968 horror classic Night of the Living Dead. Her portrayal of the terrified but resilient housewife helped cement the film's status as a cultural touchstone and introduced O'Dea to a generation of horror fans. After the success of that role, she appeared in the television movie The Pirate during the 1970s before stepping away from the screen to devote her time to raising a family, a decision that kept her out of the public eye for several decades. In the early 2000s O'Dea resurfaced in the independent horror circuit, taking parts in low‑budget titles such as Claustrophobia, October Moon and Women's Studies, and even revisited her original Barbra character in the fan‑made sequel Night of the Living Dead: Genesis.
