Joonas Suotamo

Joonas Viljami Suotamo was born on 3 October 1986 in Espoo, Finland, and displayed a wide‑ranging creative curiosity from a young age. In his youth he appeared in local stage productions, cultivating a love for performance that would later intersect with his athletic pursuits. He attended Pennsylvania State University, where he not only played power forward and centre for the Nittany Lions but also majored in film and video, graduating in just three and a half years with a Bachelor of Arts in December 2008. While at Penn State he excelled academically, earning Academic All‑Big Ten honors twice, and balanced his studies with a demanding basketball schedule. After completing his Finnish conscription, reaching the rank of second lieutenant, Suotamo returned to Finland and embarked on a professional basketball career that spanned seven seasons, including four years in the top‑tier Korisliiga with clubs such as Honka and Lr NMKY. He also represented Finland on the national stage, playing three games for the senior team and sixty‑six for junior squads, before transitioning into a post‑sports career in insurance sales.
