John McGovern

John McGovern (born 7 October 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a celebrated Scottish former professional footballer and manager best known for captaining Nottingham Forest to back‑to‑back European Cup victories in 1979 and 1980 under the legendary manager Brian Clough. Raised in a working‑class neighborhood, McGovern began his senior career with Hibernian in 1968 before moving to Liverpool, where he struggled for regular first‑team football, prompting a transfer to Derby County where he finally displayed his tenacious midfield qualities.
