Joel Courtney is an acclaimed American actor, distinguished by his performances in the 2011 film Super 8 and Netflix's The Kissing Booth film series. Born in Monterey, California, on January 31, 1996, Courtney grew up in Moscow, Idaho, where he attended Logos School, a Classical Christian school. His acting journey began during a summer school break trip to Los Angeles in 2010, intending to feature in a commercial. Casting director Patti Kalles spotted Courtney's talent, encouraging him to audition for Paramount Pictures' Super 8. Following 11 callbacks, he clinched the part of Joe Lamb, winning the 2012 Saturn Awards for Best Performance by a Younger Actor.

Apart from Super 8, Courtney's filmography is prolific. In 2011, he filmed Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn in Bulgaria, taking on the role of Tom Sawyer. In 2012, he starred in the supernatural thriller Don't Let Me Go and the Fox TV movie Rogue. Courtney then featured in the 2013 indie films Dear Eleanor and Sins of our Youth and CW Television Network series The Messengers. He also appeared in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Nathaniel Malick and led indie films like The River Thief. More recently, he reprised his role in The Kissing Booth film series and appeared in Lionsgate's Jesus Revolution.
