Janine Turner (born Janine Loraine Gauntt on December 6, 1962, in Lincoln, Nebraska) began her public career at sixteen when she left Texas for New York City to model with the Wilhelmina Modeling Agency, a bold move that set the stage for her later work in Hollywood. After a brief stint in modeling she transitioned to acting, landing early television credits on Dallas and a recurring role as Laura Templeton on General Hospital during the early 1980s. By the mid‑1980s Turner grew dissatisfied with the limited and often one‑dimensional parts offered to women, prompting her to relocate to New York to study at the Actors Studio under Marcia Haufrecht, where she refined her craft and embraced more substantive material.
