McMullen's versatility took him beyond this, as he featured in an episode of the BBC One drama series 'The Street' and later starred in 'Proper Messy' as part of BBC Switch. McMullen then became part of a compelling storyline on 'Doctors,' a BBC One medical soap opera, where he was portrayed as a member of a young gay couple who decided to run away from home. From 2010 to 2012, he embodied the character of troublemaker Finn Sharkey in the BBC One school-based drama series 'Waterloo Road.' His skills allowed him to appear in a variety of other roles, including a part in the BBC One series 'Casualty' and the film 'The Knife That Killed Me' in 2013. Most recently, in June 2021, he worked onscreen alongside Sean Bean and Stephen Graham in the BBC series 'Time'
