Harry Edwards

Harry Edwards (born September 30, 1942) is an American sociologist, professor, author, and prominent civil‑rights activist renowned for his groundbreaking research on race, sport, and social inequality. Born in Washington, D.C., Edwards grew up during a period of intense social change, which profoundly shaped his scholarly pursuits and activist commitments. After earning his Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Illinois, he joined the faculty at the University of California, Berkeley, where he has taught for more than five decades, influencing generations of students with his incisive critiques of racism in athletics and broader society.
