Hal Walters, born Henry Paul Walters on 29 January 1892 in South Shields, County Durham, England, was a prolific British film actor whose career spanned the silent era through the early sound period. He entered the industry in 1925, quickly becoming a recognizable character actor thanks to his robust physique and a talent for portraying working‑class heroes, side‑kicks, and comic rogues. Over the next fifteen years he appeared in more than seventy productions, ranging from modest low‑budget comedies to prestigious dramas such as The Four Feathers (1939), in which his portrayal of the loyal soldier Joe earned him a lasting place in cinematic history. Walters' early work included roles in Just Plain Folks (1925) and Mistaken Orders (1925), where he played Vince Barton, establishing his on‑screen presence as a reliable supporting player. Throughout the 1930s he was a fixture in British studio output, turning up in titles like The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934) as an uncredited postman, Sabotage (1936) in a fleeting aquarium scene, and The Vulture (1937) as Stiffy Mason, demonstrating his versatility across genres.
