Gabriel Afolayan

Gabriel Afolayan (born 1 March 1985)—also popularly known by his musical moniker G‑Fresh—is a prominent Nigerian actor and singer who hails from the legendary Afolayan entertainment dynasty. He is the son of the celebrated filmmaker Adeyemi Afolayan, better known as “Ade Love”, and brother to noted actors Moji, Kunle and Aremu Afolayan, a lineage that has profoundly shaped Nollywood’s evolution. After completing his secondary education, Gabriel pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts at the University of Ibadan, where he honed his craft both on stage and in the university choir. His artistic journey began in 1997 when he joined a musical group in Ibadan, laying the foundation for a dual‑track career that would see him oscillate between acting and music with equal vigor. Early television exposure came with the role of Akin in the popular Super Story series “Nnenna”, a performance that cemented his visibility among Nigerian audiences and showcased his natural charisma.

Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Afolayan built an impressive filmography that includes standout titles such as Hoodrush (2012), where his portrayal of Travier Jabari earned him the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, as well as Okafor’s Law (2016), Citation (2020) and the upcoming Lisabi: The Uprising (2024). His versatility is evident in the range of characters he has embodied—from the street‑wise Fox in Okafor’s Law to the regal Prince Adetiba in King Invincible. Parallel to his acting success, Gabriel’s music career flourished with soulful love ballads such as “Awelewa” and “Kokoro Ifẹ”, tracks that reflect his admiration for artists like 2face, Banky W., Aṣa and Bez. In interviews with The Punch and Nigerian Tribune, he describes his sound as “love ballad”, emphasizing lyrical intimacy and melodic simplicity. Beyond his professional achievements, Gabriel remains a private individual; while his familial ties are well‑documented, details about his marital status or children have not been publicly disclosed. Nonetheless, his contributions to both Nigerian cinema and music continue to inspire a new generation of performers, solidifying his legacy as a multifaceted entertainer.
