Emily Fortune Feimster, better known as Fortune Feimster, is an accomplished American writer, comedian, and actress. Born on July 1, 1980, she shot to fame after making her television debut on NBC's Last Comic Standing in 2010. Feimster has played notable roles, such as starring as Colette on The Mindy Project from 2015 to 2017. In July 2019, she expanded her talents to radio, hosting the popular show What a Joke with Papa and Fortune alongside Tom Papa. The show serves as the first live programming on the Sirius XM channel Netflix is a Joke, where they interview a diverse range of comedians and celebrities. She has further contributed to the television industry by appearing in The L Word: Generation Q, playing the role of Heather.
Early in her life, Feimster was very active. She had a vibrant childhood in Belmont, North Carolina, where she excelled in various sports, including basketball, softball, and tennis in South Point High School. After graduating high school in 1998, she attended Peace College where she majored in communications and played soccer and tennis. After receiving her degree, she moved to Los Angeles in 2003 to pursue comedy, where she began working as a personal assistant to actress Emily Procter. After a seven-year career in entertainment journalism, Feimster joined The Goodling Theatre, where she studied improv and sketch comedy. This served as another turning point in her career; after four years of training, she was selected to join the Groundlings' Sunday Company.
