Emma Mackey

Emma Mackey (born Emma Margaret Marie Tachard‑Mackey on 4 January 1996 in Le Mans, France) is a French‑British actress who rose to international prominence through her breakout role as Maeve Wiley in Netflix’s critically acclaimed series Sex Education (2019‑2023). The daughter of a French school headmaster and an English mother, she spent her early childhood in Sablé‑sur‑Sarthe before moving to England to study English language and literature at the University of Leeds, graduating with a BA in 2016. Immediately after university she was cast in her first professional role, delivering a performance that combined sharp wit, vulnerability and a fierce independence, earning her a British Academy Television Award nomination in 2021 and a National Comedy Award win the following year. Beyond television, Mackey has built a diverse filmography that showcases her versatility: she appeared in the romantic drama Eiffel (2021), portrayed Jacqueline de Bellefort in Kenneth Branagh’s mystery thriller Death on the Nile (2022), and took on the title role in the biographical film Emily (2022), embodying the legendary novelist Emily Brontë.
