David Emge

David Michael Emge (September 9, 1946 – January 20, 2024) was an American actor whose most iconic performance came as the charismatic survivor Stephen “Flyboy” Andrews in George A. Romero’s seminal zombie classic Dawn of the Dead. Born in Evansville, Indiana, Emge grew up in the Midwest before pursuing higher education, where he shared a classroom with future sitcom star Ron Glass, a friendship that would later be noted in interviews about his formative years. After college, he moved to New York City and worked as a chef in a bustling restaurant, a job that unexpectedly put him on Romero’s radar during a chance encounter in the early 1970s.
