Christine Fabréga was a French actress and television personality whose career spanned two vibrant decades of post‑war cinema and early television. Born on 8 April 1931 in Paris, she entered the entertainment world amid the flourishing French New Wave, initially appearing as a model‑turned‑actress in the 1953 film Le gang des pianos à bretelles before establishing herself as a reliable character performer. Her breakout role came in 1966 when she portrayed Simone, known as ‘Manouche’, in Jean‑Pierre Melville’s critically acclaimed crime drama Le deuxième souffle, sharing the screen with legendary star Lino Ventura and demonstrating a remarkable ability to blend toughness with vulnerability. Over the next twenty years, Fabréga built a diverse filmography that included roles in André Cayatte’s Les risques du métier (1967) alongside Jacques Brel, Jean Delannoy’s La peau de Torpédo (1970), and Maurice Pialat’s intimate drama Nous ne vieillirons pas ensemble (1972), where she played the tender mother of Catherine. She also appeared in José Giovanni’s gritty Deux hommes dans la ville (1973) as Geneviève Cazeneuve, and in the comedic Les murs ont des oreilles (1974) where she embodied Gilda, the spirited cook, showcasing her versatility across genres. In addition to film, Fabréga became a familiar face on French television, where her charisma and eloquence made her a beloved TV personality during the 1970s and early 1980s, contributing to a range of talk‑show formats and variety programs that solidified her status as a household name.
