Born in Detroit, Michigan to mixed heritage parents, she is the niece of fashion designer Anna Sui. Her education was completed at Harvard University where she graduated magna cum laude, majoring in film studies and production. She also contributed to the university's humor publication, The Harvard Lampoon. Her multifaceted careers spans acting, directing, screenwriting and modelling. Wonders' career began as the protagonist and crucial creative force behind 2009's A Trivial Exclusion. She continued with her directorial skills for the feature-length film Last Migration in 2015. In the later part of her career, she played Makayla in the psychological horror film Daniel Isn't Real in 2019, and a minor yet impactful role in Sofia Coppola's 2020 comedy-drama film On the Rocks. She has been a part of mainstream television since 2021, with a prominent role in HBO Max's dramedy series Generation. Later in 2022, she ventured into writing and directing a short film with Vogue China magazine titled Wake. She has also worked in the modelling industry, featuring in a fashion campaign between her aunt, Anna Sui and Batsheva Hay in 2021.
