Andrew Lincoln

Andrew Lincoln, born Andrew James Clutterbuck on 14 September 1973 in London, England, is an English actor, writer, and producer whose career spans over three decades. From a young age he displayed a love for performance, landing his first role as The Artful Dodger at fourteen in a school production of Oliver! and later honing his craft at the National Youth Theatre and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where he adopted the stage name Andrew Lincoln. After graduating, he broke into television with a debut in the Channel 4 sitcom Drop the Dead Donor in 1994, quickly moving on to a breakout role as Edgar “Egg” Cooke in the BBC drama This Life, establishing himself as a versatile talent in British television. Throughout the 2000s he accumulated a diverse portfolio, appearing in period adaptations such as The Woman in White and Wuthering Heights, starring in the cult‑favorite film Love Actually as Mark, and leading the Sky 1 action series Strike Back alongside Richard Armitage. His theatrical work includes notable productions like Blue/Orange and The Late Henry Moss, demonstrating a commitment to the stage as well as screen. The turning point of Lincoln’s international fame arrived in April 2010 when he was cast as Rick Grimes, the central figure of AMC’s post‑apocalyptic series The Walking Dead. His portrayal earned him two Saturn Awards for Best Actor on Television (2015, 2017) and solidified his status as the face of one of the world’s most influential pop‑culture franchises. After an emotionally charged departure in 2018 to spend more time with his family, he returned for the series finale in 2022 and is slated to reprise the role in the upcoming spin‑off The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live in 2024.
