Amruta Subhash

Amruta Subhash (born Amruta Subhashchandra Dhembre on 13 May 1979 in Mumbai, Maharashtra) is a renowned Indian actress, singer and classical dancer whose work spans Marathi and Hindi cinema, television and theatre. She graduated from the National School of Drama in New Delhi, where she trained under the legendary Satyadev Dubey and performed in productions such as Urvashiam (1997) and Mrug Trushna (1999), laying a solid foundation for her versatile career. Subhash made her film debut with the National Award‑winning Marathi masterpiece Shwaas (2004), which was also India’s official entry for the 77th Academy Awards and brought her immediate critical attention. Her breakthrough on the small screen came with the popular Zee Marathi series Awaghachi Sansar, where her portrayal of Aasawari earned her a Best Actress award in 2006 and cemented her status as a household name. In 2013 she received the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her nuanced performance in Astu, a role that also garnered her a Filmfare Marathi Award and further highlighted her ability to embody complex characters. Subhash has since appeared in internationally acclaimed projects such as Firaaq (2008), the Netflix series Sacred Games (2019), and the critically praised Bombay Begums (2020), demonstrating a seamless transition between mainstream and art‑house cinema.
