Alexis Sablone

Alexis Sablone is a goofy‑footed American professional skateboarder and multidisciplinary artist whose influence extends far beyond the skate park. Born on August 12, 1986, in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, she taught herself to skate at the age of nine by watching old VHS tapes in her mother’s garage, later honing her skills at local skate spots and entering her first all‑girls contest at twelve. Her early promise was evident when footage of her soaring on railings to Rosemary Clooney’s “Mambo Italiano” in PJ Ladd’s Wonderful, Horrible, Life made her a breakout star at just sixteen, and she quickly became a regular on the competitive circuit despite early setbacks such as a rolled ankle that almost ended her contest career. After graduating from the Hopkins School, she pursued an architecture degree at Barnard College, graduating in 2008, and later earned a master’s in architecture from MIT in 2016, where she developed a thesis titled “Nuclear Oasis: The Story of 10,000‑year‑old Trash.” While working as a waitress on the Upper East Side, she returned to competition, earning a silver medal in her X Games debut in 2009 and subsequently amassing three gold, two silver, and two bronze X Games medals, as well as a World Skateboarding Championship title in 2015. In 2017 she became the first female rider on the WKND Skateboards team, releasing a signature pro deck and later designing public skate‑able sculptures such as “Lady In The Square” in Malmö, Sweden. Her collaborations with Converse have produced multiple pro‑model sneakers, highlighting her role as a cultural pioneer for women in skateboarding. Representing the United States, Sablone placed fourth in the historic women’s street event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, underscoring her status as a trailblazer who continues to inspire the next generation of female skaters worldwide.
