Al Gore

Albert Arnold Gore Jr. (born March 31, 1948 in Washington, D.C.) is an American politician, environmentalist, businessman, journalist and author who served as the 45th Vice President of the United States from 1993 to 2001 under President Bill Clinton. His public career began in 1977 when he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Tennessee, where he served two districts until 1985, after which he won a Senate seat and served until 1993. As a Senator he championed early legislation on climate change, high‑performance computing and the nascent Internet, sponsoring the 1991 High‑Performance Computing Act that helped create the information superhighway. In the Clinton administration he was a key advisor, overseeing initiatives on governmental reform, technology, and environmental policy, and he helped negotiate the Kyoto Protocol while advocating for renewable energy and carbon taxation. After leaving office he co‑founded Current TV, served on the boards of Apple and Google, and launched The Climate Reality Project, becoming a prominent voice on global warming and winning the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize jointly with the IPCC. His 2006 documentary An Inconvenient Truth earned an Academy Award and cemented his reputation as a climate activist, leading to a sequel in 2017. Gore has authored several best‑selling books, received a Primetime Emmy, a Webby Award, and in 2024 was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Throughout his career he has been described as a “raging moderate” who evolved from a traditional Southern Democrat to a global advocate for sustainable development, shaping public discourse on technology and the environment for more than five decades.
