Afzal Hossain

Afzal Hossain, born on 19 July 1954 in Parulia, Satkhira (then part of East Bengal, Dominion of Pakistan), is a towering figure in Bangladeshi entertainment. His father, Ali Ashraf Hossain, served as a medical officer, and the young Afzal grew up alongside his brother Alfaz Hossain and sister Rumana Afroz, a household that nurtured artistic curiosity. Beginning in the mid‑1975, Hossain entered the world of theatre, quickly gaining recognition for his nuanced performances and charismatic stage presence. By the late 1970s he transitioned to television, becoming a regular actor on Bangladesh Television (BTV), where he appeared in numerous acclaimed dramas that cemented his reputation as one of the most versatile performers of his generation.

His contributions were formally recognized in 2022 when the government awarded him the prestigious Ekushey Padak, Bangladesh’s second‑highest civilian honor.
