Jordan Wells and Austin Moore lead a tight-knit crew—Jewel McCaul, Mickey Cole, Alisa Rosado, and Bobby Crow—toward Canada for the Road Rally 1000, a grueling cross-country race that tests more than speed. The group is a blend of camaraderie and friendly banter, the cars roaring to life as the highway becomes their stage. Their goal is simple on the surface: push through the miles, chase victory, and share the thrill of the road. Yet beneath the surface, long-held nerves and past mistakes begin to stir, foreshadowing the danger that lies ahead.

During a lunch stop, Austin spots a shortcut on the map, despite warnings from the eerie trucker Barry. The promise of a quicker route tempts the crew, and they decide to take the risk, drawn by the lure of cutting corners and shaving time off the clock. The mood shifts from lighthearted teasing to sudden tension as memories of a past crash surface, threatening to fracture the group’s rhythm. In a moment of reckless impulse, the race among friends collides with the cruel reality of the road, and the trail takes a dark turn when the trucker Rusty Nail turns up with malicious intent, a mounting camera in his possession that tracks their every move. He makes it clear he intends to settle a score, and his ominous presence looms large over the journey.

That night, Jewel and Austin, seeking help, encounter Rusty Nail, who forcibly detaches them from the road and abducts them. The unsettling encounter unfolds in a stark, empty field, where Rusty’s cruelty leaves no room for doubt about the danger he represents. He contacts Jordan, demanding the racecar in exchange for Jewel’s release, a chilling bargaining chip that turns the rally into a high-stakes nightmare. The remaining crew—Jordan, Mickey, Alisa, and Bobby—press forward and reach an old warehouse where they hope to confront Rusty head-on, driven by a mix of fear, loyalty, and a stubborn resolve to save their friends.

The pursuit becomes a cat-and-mouse chase through a landscape of deserted roads and shadowy buildings. Rusty abducts Bobby, forcing the group to split their focus between survival and pursuit. A nearby police officer offers a glimmer of hope, but the encounter ends brutally when Rusty eliminates him with calculated violence. Mickey’s attempt to seek law enforcement aid ends in tragedy as well when Rusty ambushes and kills him, crushing any remaining faith in a straightforward rescue. Undeterred, Jordan and Alisa refuse to surrender to fear or to outside authorities and keep fighting, their determination burning brighter with every setback.

Rusty—through taunts broadcast by radio—claims another victim, and broadcasts a demand for surrender at a junkyard to secure Jewel’s release and the fate of Austin. In a tense, solitary confrontation, Alisa manages to ram Rusty, seemingly turning the tide. Yet this victory is hollow, because Jewel’s distress appears to have been manufactured with pre-recorded footage, sowing doubt and anger within the remaining team. Fueled by a fresh surge of fury, Jordan and Alisa resume their pursuit, re-entering the danger zone with unwavering resolve. Rusty retaliates with a brutal ram, aiming to crush them, but Jordan breaks free and, in a desperate gambit, uses a wrecking claw to wrench Rusty’s truck into a crusher—an act that appears to end the threat.

When investigators arrive, Rusty Nail is inexplicably gone, leaving a chilling void in his wake. The film closes on a bleak, unsettled note: Jordan and Alisa emerge as the lone survivors, their victory tempered by the abrupt disappearance of their formidable foe. The final image lingers with a sense of unresolved menace, reminding audiences that some evils vanish only momentarily, and danger may still be gnawing in the shadows of the road ahead.
