Returning home after surgery, she wrestles with self-consciousness and tries to act as if everything is normal to protect her daughter, Nina Natalie Portman. Yet a quiet resentment begins to simmer: Clare grows to begrudge Nina, who in turn resents feeling used as a model for her mother’s work.
