What Is Country of the Deaf About?

The premise of Country of the Deaf without spoilers.

Yaya, a deaf‑mute dancer, hides Rita, who is on the run after her boyfriend Alyosha incurs mafia gambling debts. In return Yaya asks Rita to abandon Alyosha and join her in an imagined refuge where material wealth means nothing, a place free of any material values, as they seek a new beginning. They dream of a life beyond fear and debt.
