William Todd Field, born February 24, 1964, is a notable American filmmaker and actor, widely recognized for his work on movies such as 'In the Bedroom' (2001), 'Little Children' (2006), and 'Tár' (2022). These projects have been nominated for a staggering fourteen Academy Awards collectively, with Field personally receiving six nominations; inclusive of two for Best Picture, two for Best Adapted Screenplay, one for Best Director, and one for Best Original Screenplay. Prior to making his mark as a filmmaker, Field had a successful acting career, showing up in films like 'Ruby in Paradise' (1993), 'Walking and Talking' (1996), and 'Eyes Wide Shut' (1999). He also co-created the concept for the bubble gum brand, Big League Chew. Field's early life was spent in Pomona, California before his family moved to Portland, Oregon when he was two. He developed interests in performing sleight-of-hand and music at an early age and even was a batboy for the Portland Mavericks, a single A independent minor league baseball team. Additionally, as a teenager, Field became a member of the Lab Band at Mount Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon, furthering his passion for music. However, his education briefly continued at Southern Oregon State College before leaving to study acting in New York. His acting career began after being cast in Woody Allen's 'Radio Days' (1987) and went on to establish his reputation by working with some of America's greatest filmmakers. He later enrolled as a Directing Fellow at the AFI Conservatory in 1992, paving his path to successful filmmaking. His first feature film was 'In the Bedroom', and his impressive filmmaking career includes several unrealized projects and award-winning movies, the most recent being, 'Tár'.
