Dame Elizabeth Jane Campion DNZM, born on April 30, 1954, is a renowned New Zealand filmmaker recognized for her contributions to the film industry. Campion has broken the glass ceiling in the world of filmmaking multiple times and continues to be a strong voice for women in the industry. Best known for writing and directing critically acclaimed films 'The Piano' and 'The Power of the Dog,' she has received two Academy Awards, two BAFTA Awards, and two Golden Globe Awards in her career.

In the 2016 New Year Honours, she was appointed a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to film. She is the only woman to date to be nominated twice for the Academy Award for Best Director and the first female filmmaker to receive the Palme d'Or. Her other notable works include the films 'An Angel at My Table,' 'The Portrait of a Lady,' 'Holy Smoke!' and 'Bright Star.' Campion also impressed the television audience by co-creating the series 'Top of the Lake', for which she received three Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Her talent runs deep into her ability to break the limitations of painting and sculpture to create visually thought-provoking films.
