What's After the Movie
Jack Ingram, born Jack Owen Ingram on November 15, 1970 in Houston, Texas, is an American country singer‑songwriter whose career spans more than three decades and includes eleven studio albums, numerous live recordings, and a string of chart‑topping singles. Raised in the suburbs of Houston and later associated with The Woodlands, he discovered his love for music while studying psychology at Southern Methodist University, where he joined the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and began writing songs for local venues. His first public performances were at a small bar near Texas Christian University, owned by his friend John Clay Wolfe, and this grassroots start led to opening slots for marquee Texas acts such as Mark Chesnutt during the early 1990s. In 1995 Ingram released his self‑titled debut on the Rhythmic label followed by Lonesome Questions, catching the attention of Warner Bros. Records, which issued the live album Live at Adair’s and re‑released his early indie material. A breakthrough arrived in 2005 when he signed with the fledgling Big Machine Records; the single “Wherever You Are” became both his first Top 40 hit and the label’s inaugural number‑one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, cementing his status as a mainstream force. Subsequent releases such as This Is It and Big Dreams & High Hopes produced additional Top 20 hits, including “Love You,” “Lips of an Angel,” and “Barefoot and Crazy,” while his energetic touring schedule earned him a reputation as one of country music’s most reliable live performers. Ingram’s accolades include the 2008 Academy of Country Music award for Top New Male Vocalist and a Guinness World Record for conducting 215 radio interviews in a single day. Beyond music, he has contributed voice imaging for multiple country radio stations, appeared in national advertising campaigns, and partnered with fellow Texan Matthew McConaughey and Coach Mack Brown on charitable fundraisers, demonstrating a commitment to both his artistic craft and community involvement.
