Hairul Azreen bin Idris, born on 23 April 1988 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, emerged as one of the most dynamic figures in contemporary Malaysian cinema. The youngest of four siblings, he was raised by Idris Ali and Habsah Desa, who encouraged his early interest in martial disciplines. By the age of sixteen, Hairul had earned a black belt in Taekwondo and represented Selangor in the 2004 Sukma Games, a performance that foreshadowed his future as a stuntman and fight choreographer. His transition from sports to the screen began in 2008, when he was recruited for behind‑the‑scenes stunt work, quickly gaining a reputation for combining authentic combat technique with cinematic flair. Over the next decade, Hairul expanded his repertoire to include acting, modeling, and eventually directing and producing his own projects. He achieved breakout fame with the 2018 naval action film PASKAL, where his physically demanding role showcased his mastery of hand‑to‑hand combat and weaponry. Subsequent box‑office hits such as Polis Evo 2, WIRA, and MALBATT: Misi Bakara cemented his status as a leading action star, while his behind‑the‑camera contributions as a fight choreographer elevated the overall quality of Malaysian action choreography. In addition to his on‑screen work, Hairul maintained a visible presence on television and in music videos, often collaborating with fellow artists to promote a modern, fitness‑oriented lifestyle. In his personal life, Hairul married actress and TV host Hanis Zalikha on 8 June 2015, and the couple have two children, Yusuf Iskandar and Alisa Aisyah. Citing a desire to focus on family and burgeoning business ventures, Hairul announced his retirement from acting on 21 August 2023, during a live broadcast of the 3 Pagi Era program. Though he stepped away from the spotlight, he promised that his final films, MALBATT: Misi Bakara and The Original Gangster, would remain cherished milestones in his career, reflecting a legacy built on dedication, physical artistry, and an unwavering commitment to Malaysian cinema.
