Diana Dale Dickey is an renowned American character actress, recognized for her contributions across theater, film, and television. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, she kick-started her acting journey on stage. In 1989, she featured in the Broadway version of The Merchant of Venice and later made appearances in popular revivals of A Streetcar Named Desire, Sweeney Todd and more off-Broadway and regional theaters. A two-time Ovation Awards recipient, Dickey parlayed her stage success to screen, debuting in 1995.

Known as a 'consummate character actor', she garnered the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female in 2010 for the drama film Winter's Bone. Throughout her career, Dickey has participated in more than 60 movies, including Changeling (2008), Super 8 (2011), Iron Man 3 (2013), and Leave No Trace (2018). Her television work includes My Name Is Earl (2005–09), Breaking Bad (2009), True Blood (2012–13), and Claws (2017–22). In 2022, she delivered a stunning lead performance in the romantic drama film A Love Song, earning critical acclaim and several award nominations.

Despite her illustrious experience in the film industry, Dickey's first leading role came quite late in her career, with A Love Song in 2022. In an interview, she recounted the difficulties she faced in the early phase of her career due to not fitting the traditional categories of lead or character actress. However, she persevered, building an enduring and remarkable career and making significant strides particularly from her mid-forties. A natural at embodying diverse and complex characters, Dickey continues to impress, with her upcoming works including the Paramount+ western series Lawmen: Bass Reeves and Amazon series Fallout, among others.
