Carl Franklin

Carl Franklin (born April 11, 1949) is an American filmmaker and former actor. He was born in Richmond, California, and is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. He furthered his education at the AFI Conservatory, where he graduated with an M.F.A. degree in directing in 1986. His cinematic directorial efforts include 'One False Move', 'Devil in a Blue Dress' and 'High Crimes'. From the 2010s, he transitioned into working primarily for television and directed shows such as: 'Rome', 'The Pacific', 'The Newsroom', 'House of Cards', 'Homeland', 'The Affair', 'The Leftovers', '13 Reasons Why', 'Ray Donovan', 'Mindhunter' and 'Dahmer'.

Franklin launched his on-screen career in the film 'Five on the Black Hand Side' in 1973. His prolific acting career also includes his role as Captain Crane on the popular action-adventure series 'The A-Team'. Inspired by low-budget films, Franklin pursued a career in directing and made his HFA thesis film 'Punk'. After graduation, he worked widely in low-budget films before venturing into directing. He also wrote the screenplay for the movie Devil in a Blue Dress which starred Denzel Washington. Despite having many unrealized projects, Franklin continues to shape the film industry, earning recognition and accolades for his contributions. Franklin's personal life includes his marriage to film producer Jesse Beaton.
