Alan Alda

**Alan Alda** (born _Alphonso Joseph D'Abruzzo_; January 28, 1936) is an acclaimed American actor who has enjoyed a career spanning over six decades. A six-time Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award winner, Alda is best known for his portrayal of Captain Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce in the CBS wartime sitcom M*A*S*H (1972–1983), for which he also wrote and directed numerous episodes. In addition to his TV roles, Alda is recognized for his performances in a range of films including California Suite (1978), Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993), Bridge of Spies (2015), and Marriage Story (2019). He received an Academy Award nomination for his role in Martin Scorsese's The Aviator (2004). Alda has also achieved success on Broadway, earning three Tony Award nominations for his performances. He is a keen advocate of science communication and hosted the TV show Scientific American Frontiers for 14 years. Alda continues to work in the film and television industry, having had recent roles in series like The Big C, Ray Donovan, and The Good Fight.
